Trip Lifecycle Stages
Every trip moves through stages — Searching, Booked, Check-in Open, In Flight, Completed — plus Delayed and Cancelled. Here's what triggers each one.
Overview
Every trip in MileIntel has a lifecycle stage that reflects where you are in the travel process. Stages update automatically based on flight data, time, and airline status feeds. You'll see the current stage as a badge on every trip card.
The Stages
Searching
Your trip exists but has no confirmed booking. You've set a route and dates, and MileIntel may be tracking prices, but nothing is locked in yet. This is the starting state for manually created trips without a confirmation code.
Booked
A flight number and confirmation code are attached. MileIntel confirms the booking exists in the airline's system. Price tracking, seat monitoring, and upgrade alerts become active. Your trip stays here until check-in opens.
Check-in Open
Typically 24 hours before departure (varies by airline). MileIntel detects when check-in opens and moves the trip automatically. The Travel Command Center activates at this stage, giving you gate info, lounge options, and terminal navigation.
In Flight
Your flight has departed. MileIntel tracks the flight's live position, estimated arrival, and any in-air updates. The TCC destination tab becomes relevant here — weather at arrival, local tips, ground transport.
Completed
The flight has landed and you've arrived. The trip moves to your history. Loyalty credits, expense tracking, and post-trip insights are available.
Delayed
The airline reports a delay of 15 minutes or more. MileIntel sends you a push notification, shows the updated time, and — on Navigator plans and above — surfaces rebooking alternatives if the delay is significant.
Cancelled
The airline has cancelled the flight. MileIntel alerts you immediately and provides airline support contacts, rebooking suggestions, and your passenger rights information.
Key Details
- Stage transitions are automatic — you never need to manually update a trip's stage
- Delayed and Cancelled can occur from any active stage (Booked, Check-in Open, In Flight)
- A trip can move from Delayed back to its previous stage if the delay is resolved
Tips
- Use the status filter on the Trips page to show only active-stage trips when you're mid-journey and don't want the noise.
