Create a Trip Manually
Step-by-step guide to creating a trip by hand — origin, destination, dates, cabin class, and flight number.
Overview
Not every trip comes from a booking confirmation email. Maybe you're planning something that hasn't been booked yet, or you bought tickets through an agency that doesn't send parseable emails. Either way, you can create a trip from scratch in about 30 seconds.
How to Create a Trip
- Open the Trips page and click the + New Trip button in the top-right corner of the sidebar.
- Enter your origin — type an airport code (LAX) or city name (Los Angeles). MileIntel autocompletes as you type.
- Enter your destination — same deal. Type the code or city.
- Set your dates — pick a departure date and, optionally, a return date. One-way trips are fine.
- Choose a cabin class — Economy, Premium Economy, Business, or First. This helps MileIntel tailor upgrade suggestions and lounge access info.
- Add a flight number (optional) — if you already have a booking, enter the flight number (e.g., UA2065) and confirmation code. MileIntel will pull live status data once the flight is in the airline's system.
- Name your trip (optional) — MileIntel auto-generates a name like "NYC to Tokyo" from your route, but you can rename it to anything ("Anniversary Trip," "Q3 Offsite").
- Save — your trip appears in the sidebar immediately.
What Happens Next
Once saved, your trip starts in the Searching stage. Add a flight number and confirmation code to move it to Booked, which unlocks price tracking, seat alerts, and TCC activation closer to departure.
Key Details
- You can edit every field after creation — nothing is locked in
- Trips without flight numbers still appear in your list and can hold documents, notes, and itinerary items
- Multi-city? Use the "Add Segment" option to build multi-leg trips
Tips
- Even if you're just considering a trip, create it in Searching stage. MileIntel will start tracking prices on that route.
- Add your confirmation code as soon as you book — that's what unlocks the good stuff like live flight tracking.
