Auto-Detected Trips
MileIntel scans your Gmail for booking confirmations and creates trip suggestions automatically. Here's how it works and what to do with them.
Overview
When you connect your Gmail account, MileIntel watches for booking confirmation emails from airlines, travel agencies, and booking platforms. When it finds one, it creates a trip suggestion with the route, dates, and flight details pre-filled. You just confirm or dismiss.
What Triggers Detection
MileIntel looks for structured booking data in emails from:
- Airlines — United, Delta, American, Southwest, JetBlue, Alaska, and 50+ international carriers
- Booking platforms — Expedia, Google Flights, Kayak, Booking.com, Hopper
- Travel agencies — Emails with standard IATA confirmation formats
- Calendar invites — If you've connected Google Calendar, travel-related events are also flagged
The parser extracts flight numbers, confirmation codes, departure/arrival airports, dates, cabin class, and passenger names.
How to Confirm or Reject
When MileIntel detects a booking, you'll see a notification badge on the Trips tab. Open it, and the suggested trip appears with a yellow "Suggested" tag.
- Confirm — The trip moves into your active list with all detected details. You can edit anything afterward.
- Dismiss — The suggestion disappears. MileIntel won't re-suggest from the same email.
- Edit before confirming — Click into the suggestion to adjust dates, cabin class, or trip name before accepting.
Key Details
- MileIntel uses read-only Gmail access — it never sends, deletes, or modifies your emails
- Detection typically happens within 5 minutes of receiving a booking confirmation
- If a trip already exists for the same route and dates, MileIntel merges the new flight data instead of creating a duplicate
- Forwarded confirmations (e.g., from a travel assistant) are also detected
Tips
- Connect Gmail early. Even old booking confirmations from the past few months may be detected and offered as suggestions.
- If detection misses a booking, you can always create the trip manually and paste the confirmation code.
