Dining Recommendations

Find restaurants and food options near your gate, filtered by your dietary preferences. Walking times and reservation links included.

Overview

The Dining tab surfaces restaurants, cafes, bars, and quick-service options near your departure gate. Results are sorted by walking time and filtered by your dietary preferences, so you're not scrolling past steakhouses when you're vegetarian.

What You See

Each dining option shows:

  • Name and cuisine type — e.g., "Shake Shack — Burgers" or "Vino Volo — Wine Bar"
  • Walking time from your gate — calculated from the airport graph, not straight-line distance
  • Price range — $ to $$$$ indicators
  • Dietary compatibility — icons for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, halal, kosher options
  • Hours — whether the restaurant is currently open, opening soon, or closed
  • Rating — aggregate rating when available from cross-referenced sources

Dietary Preference Filtering

If you've set dietary preferences in your MileIntel settings (Settings > Dietary Preferences), the Dining tab automatically filters results. Restaurants that can't accommodate your preferences are moved to the bottom of the list or hidden entirely.

You can also toggle dietary filters temporarily in the Dining tab without changing your saved preferences.

Reservation Links

For sit-down restaurants that take reservations, MileIntel provides direct links to reserve a table. This is especially useful at busy airports where popular spots fill up during peak travel times.

Discovery Sources

Dining data comes from:

  • OpenStreetMap airport POI data
  • Google Places cross-referencing for ratings and hours
  • MileIntel's own airport database with manual curation for major hubs

Key Details

  • Dining recommendations update when your gate changes — new gate means new "near you" results
  • Walking time accounts for terminal layout, not just distance (going through a connector between terminals adds time)
  • Quick-service and grab-and-go options are included alongside sit-down restaurants
  • Hours are shown in the airport's local timezone

Tips

  1. If you have a tight connection, filter by "under 5 minutes" walking time and grab-and-go options. Don't risk missing your flight for a sit-down meal.
  2. Airport restaurants near international gates tend to be pricier. If you have time, check options in the domestic terminal — they're often cheaper and less crowded.
