What-If Scenarios

Compare hypothetical redemptions before committing. Test different point balances, transfer strategies, and booking timelines.

Overview

What-If Scenarios let you test redemption strategies without touching your real balances. Change the variables — point totals, transfer partners, travel dates, cabin class — and see how the recommendations shift. It's a sandbox for your loyalty portfolio.

What You Can Simulate

  • Adjusted balances — "What if I had 20,000 more Amex points?" Useful for deciding whether to wait and accumulate or redeem now.
  • Transfer scenarios — "What if I transferred Chase to Hyatt instead of United?" Compare the value of sending the same points to different partners.
  • Date flexibility — "What if I flew Tuesday instead of Friday?" See how shifting dates changes award availability and pricing.
  • Cabin changes — "What if I flew business instead of economy?" The value calculation changes dramatically between cabins.
  • Future balances — "What will my portfolio look like in 3 months given my current earning rate?" Plan ahead for a trip that's still a few months out.

How to Use It

Open any Best Path analysis, tap What-If, and adjust the variables. The recommendations recalculate in real time. You can save scenarios to compare later or share them with a travel companion.

Key Details

  • What-If is a Black tier feature.
  • Saved scenarios persist in your account and can be revisited.
  • Simulations don't affect your actual balances or trigger any transfers.

Tips

  1. Use What-If before big redemptions to confirm you're not leaving value on the table.
  2. Test the "wait and accumulate" scenario — sometimes earning for 2 more months unlocks a significantly better path.
