Path Comparison

Compare redemption strategies side by side. See value, cost, points spent, and tradeoffs laid out clearly for every option.

Overview

Path Comparison puts your Best Path options side by side so you can weigh them against each other directly. Instead of flipping between recommendation cards, you see every strategy in columns with the key metrics aligned.

What's Compared

Each column represents a different redemption strategy. The rows break down:

  • Out-of-pocket cost — Total cash required, including taxes, fees, and co-pays.
  • Points/miles spent — Which currency and how many.
  • Value per point — Cents per point you're getting from the redemption.
  • Opportunity cost — What else those points could be worth if saved for a different trip.
  • Earning impact — Miles and qualifying metrics you'd earn (cash fares earn; award tickets usually don't).
  • Status implications — Whether the fare class counts toward elite qualification.

Reading the Comparison

The "best overall" column is highlighted, but the best option depends on your priorities. If you're chasing elite status, a cash fare that earns qualifying miles might beat a higher-value award redemption. If you're sitting on expiring miles, burning them at a modest rate beats losing them entirely.

Key Details

  • Path Comparison is available on Executive and Black tiers.
  • Compare up to 5 strategies simultaneously.
  • You can pin specific paths and dismiss others to narrow the view.

Tips

  1. Always check the "earning impact" row. A cash fare that earns 5,000 qualifying miles could be worth more than saving 10,000 points.
  2. Factor in expiration dates. A 1.2 cpp redemption on miles expiring next month is better than a theoretical 2.0 cpp trip you might take someday.
