Carbon Footprint Dashboard
Track your flight emissions using ICAO methodology, with cabin multipliers and offset suggestions.
Overview
Every flight has a carbon cost. The Carbon Dashboard calculates your personal flight emissions so you can understand your impact and take action if you choose to.
How It Works
- Distance Calculation — MileIntel uses haversine distance between airport pairs to determine great-circle distance for each flight.
- ICAO/DEFRA Methodology — Emissions are calculated using internationally recognized formulas from the International Civil Aviation Organization and UK DEFRA guidelines. These account for fuel burn rates, aircraft load factors, and radiative forcing.
- Cabin Multipliers — Business and first class seats take up more space, so they carry a higher share of the flight's total emissions. Economy gets a 1x multiplier, premium economy 1.5x, business 2.5x, and first class 4x.
- Running Total — Your cumulative emissions are tracked over time, broken down by trip, route, and cabin class.
Key Details
- Emissions are expressed in kilograms of CO2 equivalent (kg CO2e).
- The dashboard pulls flight data from your trips automatically — no manual entry needed for tracked flights.
- Monthly and yearly totals help you spot trends in your travel footprint.
- Offset suggestions link to verified carbon offset programs with estimated costs.
Tips
- Choosing economy over business on a transatlantic flight can cut your per-seat emissions by more than half.
- Nonstop flights are generally more efficient than connections — takeoff and landing burn the most fuel.
- Use the yearly comparison view to set personal reduction targets. Even small shifts in cabin class or route choice add up.
