The decision in one line

If you already plan to buy an Etihad Airways ticket from the U.S. before the end of 2026, check every American Express card you hold for this offer before you book. Then book on Etihad.com in U.S. dollars, or the credit is unlikely to trigger.

What the offer is

Upgraded Points reported it in a post updated November 2, 2026. American Express has a targeted Amex Offer that gives $200 back after spending $1,000 or more on Etihad Airways flights.

"Targeted" means not every cardmember will see it. Upgraded Points says the offer is highly targeted and may appear on only one of your cards if you have several. Per the same report, the offer runs through December 31, 2026.

The terms that decide eligibility

According to Upgraded Points:

  • You must add the offer to your card before making the purchase.
  • Flights must originate in the U.S. and be charged in USD.
  • Tickets must be booked online at Etihad.com, directly with the airline. Purchases through third-party vendors don't qualify.
  • The offer is limited to one statement credit per account.
  • The credit posts within 90 days of December 31, 2026.

That last term is a real tradeoff. You pay the full fare up front, and the $200 may take months to show up.

Is it worth it?

Upgraded Points notes that spending exactly $1,000 on an Etihad flight works out to a 20% rebate. The credit is capped at $200, so our inference is that the effective discount shrinks as your spend rises above the threshold.

The threshold matters more than the headline. Upgraded Points cites round-trip fares from the East Coast to Abu Dhabi starting at around $900, based on a Google Flights screenshot. That was their observation at publication, not a price we checked, and fares change.

Our inference: a single ticket priced below $1,000 would not meet the threshold on its own. The report also doesn't say whether separate purchases can be combined to reach $1,000. Read the terms in your own account rather than assuming.

The practical decision rule, also our inference: count the credit only if the Etihad.com fare in USD is already one you'd pay. Don't let a statement credit justify a more expensive itinerary or a booking channel you'd otherwise avoid.

Where points fit in

Upgraded Points says Membership Rewards points no longer transfer to Etihad Guest, Etihad's loyalty program. That is why a cash-fare rebate like this is one of the few Amex-linked ways left to save on Etihad.

The offer may appear on a Platinum Card from American Express. If so, Upgraded Points says you can also earn 5x points on the purchase. The card's listed terms on the same page say it earns 5X points on flights purchased directly from airlines, on up to $500,000 of these purchases per calendar year.

Limits of this information

  • This article relies on a single publisher's report, which describes terms shown in an Amex screenshot. The terms attached to the offer in your own account are what count.
  • Because the offer is targeted, there is no way to add it if it doesn't appear on any of your cards.
  • The fare level mentioned above is the publisher's snapshot, not a current price guarantee.
