Award sweet spots are the redemptions where you get outsized value from your miles, where the math works so well in your favor that paying cash would feel absurd. These seven are bookable right now for spring and early summer 2026.

1. ANA Business Class to Tokyo: 50,000 Virgin Atlantic Points

This is the gold standard of award sweet spots, and it's still available.

ANA's "The Room" business class is consistently rated among the world's best — a door-closing suite with a lie-flat seat that converts to a proper bed. The cash price for a round-trip in business runs $6,000-$9,000.

Through Virgin Atlantic Flying Club, you can book it one-way for just 50,000 points + ~$300 in taxes.

How to Book
  • Transfer Chase UR or Amex MR to Virgin Atlantic (1:1, instant)
  • Search for "F" availability on United.com (ANA shows under Star Alliance)
  • Call Virgin Atlantic at +1-800-862-8621 to book
  • Online booking doesn't always work for ANA, so phone is more reliable
  • Value: 50,000 points for a $4,500+ one-way ticket = 9.0+ cpp. That's exceptional.Availability: Best 3-4 months out. Check Tuesday/Wednesday departures from LAX, SFO, ORD, IAH, or JFK.

    2. Cathay Pacific Business Class to Hong Kong: 50,000 Alaska Miles

Alaska Mileage Plan remains one of the best programs for booking partner premium cabins. Cathay Pacific's business class features reverse-herringbone seats with direct aisle access, a massive improvement over what most US carriers offer on similar routes.

  • Cost: 50,000 Alaska miles + ~$50 in taxes (one-way)
  • Cash price: $4,000-$6,000 one-way
  • How to earn: Alaska miles transfer from Marriott Bonvoy (3:1) or can be earned via the Alaska Airlines Visa ($75k signup bonus frequently available)
  • Availability: Strong from LAX and SFO. Check 14-21 days before departure for last-minute releases.
  • 3. Turkish Airlines Business Class to Istanbul: 45,000 Aeroplan Points

Air Canada Aeroplan offers some of the most consistent partner award availability in the business. Turkish's 787 business class with their excellent catering is a standout experience.

  • Cost: 45,000 Aeroplan points + $100 in taxes (one-way from East Coast)
  • Cash price: $3,500-$5,000
  • Transfer from: Chase UR, Amex MR, or Capital One (all 1:1)
  • Best routes: IAD, JFK, or ORD to IST nonstop
  • 4. Emirates First Class to the Maldives: 100,000 Emirates Skywards Miles

Here's where it gets fun. Emirates first class (the one with the shower, the bar, the closing suites) can be booked from the US to the Maldives via Dubai for 100,000 Skywards miles one-way.

But the real sweet spot: fuel surcharges are only ~$30. Most first-class award tickets come with $500-$800 in surcharges. Emirates keeps them minimal.

    The Numbers
    100,000
    Skywards miles
    ~$30
    in taxes/fees
    $15,000+
    cash ticket price
How to get Skywards miles: Transfer from Amex MR (1:1), Chase UR (1:1, limited availability), or Capital One (1:1).

    5. Japan Airlines Business Class: 60,000 AA Miles

American AAdvantage gives you access to JAL business class on the 787 (Sky Suite) for 60,000 miles one-way to Tokyo. JAL's catering, service, and seat are world-class.

  • Cost: 60,000 AAdvantage miles + ~$60 in taxes
  • Cash price: $5,000-$7,000
  • Search: aa.com, filter for partner availability on JAL-operated flights
  • Best from: LAX, SFO, DFW, or JFK
  • 6. Lufthansa First Class: 87,000 Aeroplan Points

Lufthansa first class, with the First Class Terminal in Frankfurt, the caviar service, the pajamas, is arguably the most aspirational product in commercial aviation. And you can book it for 87,000 Aeroplan points one-way.

  • The catch: Availability is scarce and releases 14 days before departure
  • Strategy: Set alerts, check daily, be flexible on dates. This is a sprint, not a jog.
  • Transfer from: Chase UR or Amex MR to Aeroplan (1:1)
  • 7. Southwest Companion Pass: 135,000 Rapid Rewards Points

Not an international sweet spot, but arguably the best domestic deal in aviation. Earn 135,000 Rapid Rewards points in a calendar year (through flying + credit card bonuses) and your designated companion flies free on every flight for the rest of that year and all of the next.

If you and a partner fly Southwest 8-10 times per year, the Companion Pass saves $2,000-$4,000 annually.

  • Best strategy: Open two Southwest credit cards in January, hit both signup bonuses, earn the pass by February, and enjoy free companion flights for nearly two full years.

  • How to Track These Deals

Sweet spots change. Programs adjust pricing, availability fluctuates, and transfer bonuses come and go. The travelers who consistently book these deals aren't luckier — they're more organized.

Every sweet spot on this list is bookable today. By next quarter, some of them won't be. The difference between booking and missing out is knowing when availability opens.
MileIntel monitors award availability and transfer bonuses across all major programs. Set up deal alerts for your target routes and we'll tell you when the window opens.
