Air Canada's Vancouver–Sapporo route starts December 17, 2026. For North American skiers heading to Hokkaido, the booking decision comes down to three questions:

What Air Canada announced

In its January 21, 2026 announcement, Air Canada said the seasonal flights will run from Vancouver International Airport (YVR) to Sapporo's Chitose Hokkaido Airport (CTS), in Japan's northern Hokkaido prefecture. The airline called it its first-ever winter seasonal service to Sapporo.

Key details from Air Canada's published schedule:

• Westbound (AC55): Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays, from December 17, 2026 to March 25, 2027.
• Eastbound (AC54): Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays, from December 18, 2026 to March 26, 2027.
• Aircraft and cabins: Boeing 787 Dreamliner, with Signature Class, Premium Economy and Economy.

The scheduled block time for this route is roughly 9 hours 10 minutes westbound and 8 hours 15 minutes eastbound, according to One Mile at a Time and Simple Flying.

Air Canada's January release also described these as the only nonstop flights between North America and Sapporo. That was the airline's description when it announced the route. Check current schedules rather than assuming it still holds.

The case for routing via Vancouver

Air Canada says the route saves more than two hours of travel time each way. Constraints to weigh before booking

Fixed operating days. Flights run three times a week in each direction. You can only leave Vancouver on a Monday, Thursday or Saturday, and only leave Sapporo on a Tuesday, Friday or Sunday. Inference: if your vacation dates are rigid, you may need to shift the trip by a day or use a different routing to make the nonstop work.Times may move. Air Canada's January schedule showed:

• AC55 leaving Vancouver at 13:25 and arriving at 15:35 the next day.
• AC54 leaving Sapporo at 19:55 and arriving in Vancouver at 11:10.

The airline says flight times are subject to change. Reconfirm them before you book onward connections.

Ski gear and Basic Economy. Air Canada says ski bags and equipment count as part of regular checked-bag allowances on its international flights, except on Basic Economy fares.
